25th-Oct-2009 08:42 pm - Sock, part 2!
ghostworld
I had my 2nd sock class today and we turned the heel.  My sock is close to getting done.  I'm so excited.  Ann, who is teaching the class, says that most people think the heel is the hardest part.  Not too hard.  I picked it up quite easily.  It's times like these that I'm glad I'm a fast learner.  I really need to get some pictures taken.  I guess I'll do that tomorrow after work.  When I got home from class tonight, I had to try it on to see if it was going to fit and it does!  Yay!

I finally finished the chevron scarf I was working on.  I will post details and pictures tomorrow.

I also changed patterns for the Christmas scarves for my cousins and uncle.  I have my cousin Michael's done.  Yay!  2 more to go.  Again, pictures and details tomorrow.
18th-Oct-2009 07:48 pm - Socks!!!!
ghostworld
Tonight was class #1 of 3 for beginning socks at Crazy Girl Yarn Shop in Coralville.

I've been intimidated by socks and well  DPNs (Double Pointed Needles).  I kept watching videos on You Tube about knitting in the round for socks and couldn't quite grasp it.  But well, I think I may be a natural (so far) at the whole sock thing on DPNs.  It wasn't has hard as I thought it would be.  I've never used DPNs before or knit in the round.  Really the only knitted things I've done are scarves, so socks are a big leap.

It was one of my New Year's resolutions to be able to make socks.  So far so good.  I'm having a lot of fun and the gals in the class are so much fun.  And Ann, our teacher for this class, is a blast!  I will definitely take more classes with her in the future.

I have to make a 5 inch cuff for my sock and I'm halfway done and I want to finish it. it only took about an hour and a half to get most of the cuff done. So I'm guessing it should take me maybe an evening to make one sock, well a basic one anyway.  I do have some smaller DPNs and sock yarn that I may try as well when I get my cuff done.  Next class, we're turning the heel!  I'm so freaking excited.

5th-Sep-2009 07:05 pm - WIP: Brad's Big-Ass Blanket
ghostworld
I haven't been working on this as diligently as I should.  I just now took an updated picture of said blanket.  I didn't realize how big it's gotten.   The pattern is just a big granny square.

And just for size reference, our bed is a queen size bed.

5th-Sep-2009 07:02 pm - FO: Cognac Scarf

Here are the pictures of the Cognac scarf for my mom for Christmas.  Only took me 6 days to finish it.  So I'm having high hopes in getting the rest of the scarves done.

26th-Aug-2009 01:17 pm - Christmas Presents
ghostworld
Okay, I finally found a quick and easy pattern for Christmas scarves for my mom, aunts and cousin.

My size 11 needles were already in use with another project so I bought some new ones.  I am going to knit with bamboo needles for the first time.

Here is the pattern

For my mom's scarf, I'm going to use Patons Classic Wool, colorway: Congnac Heather.
For my aunt Carol's scarf, I'm going to use Patons Classic Wool, colorway: Plum Heather.
For my aunt Doris's scarf, I'm going to use Patons Classic Wool, colorway: Woodrose Heather.
For my cousin Lisa's scarf, I'm going to use Patons Classic Wool, colorway: Jade Heather.

Click here for pictures of said yarn.

Also, with these scarves, I'm going to learn how to do the long tail cast-on.

For my cousin Michael, Uncle John and cousin Are, they will be getting scarves as well.  This one is a moss stitch scarf.

Pattern Here. (Ravelry Link)

I am going to use Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool for both scarves.  My cousin Michael's will be in the colorway Nature's Brown and my uncle's in colorway Oak Tweed.  My cousine Are's will be in the colorway Maple Tweed.

For my dad, I'm going to attempt to crochet him an amigurumi dragon.

Pattern for sale here, with picture of the finished piece.

I'm not sure what I will make for my cousin Lisa's two kids.  I will have to brainstorm on that a bit.  I will also (hopefully) be making a blanket for my cousin Lisa as well since I didn't get it done last year.

I am starting now, in hopes I will be done by December.  All of my other projects are going to be put aside in the meantime.

ghostworld
I just got my Noro Yarn!!  So excited.  It's a blue/green colorway and I'm using it to make a scarf for my mom for Christmas.  Yay for Christmas knitting.

Here's a picture of it from the website.  It's beautiful!

The Subliminal pattern can be found here.  (Ravelry link)

EDIT: So now the plan is to stash this yarn.  I've attempted the pattern several times and keep messing up.  I will attempt it again in the future.
